The Big Cat attacks Bulls in Goharabad, Gulmit

By G.Nasir

Three Bulls were attacked by a snow leoperd at Goharabad, Gulmit. One of the bulls was badly wounded and had to be slaughtered while the the other two survived despite of bad injuries. This is the second incident of its kind during a span of four months. Earlier, in January this year, a snow leoperd had played havoc with cattle entering a cattle house in Odver ward of Gulmit village. The bulls injured and killed during this attack belonged to Safar Baig, Ayub Khan and Saeed Ahmad, all residents of Gulmit village.

  1. I express my sympathies for Safar Biag, Ayub Khan and Saeed Ahmed for loosing their cattle in this attack by the snow Leopard. However i would like to urge that these people and others in Gulmit village should tolerate these losses and practice restraint. There may be an immediate urge to kill the stalking Leopard and settle the problem once and for all. However, these snow Leopard’s are increasingly becoming extinct largely becasue of human-being’s ruthless behavriour towards the natrual enviornment. Leopard’s have got as much right to live on the surface of the earth as we do. We can however distinguish ourselves by demonstrating our moral superiority and through the use of reason.
    Now, i believe that not killing the snow Leopard is a morallly superior act as well as a possibly reasonable act.

  2. Dear Pamir times,

    As I think this Blog is not to discuss our catles, yes catles are also an importent part of our villages but one must keep the international standards of journalism

  3. Dear Kako Jamil: Since we the people of Hunza live in a a natural environment where such animals as sheeps, cows, yawks, and and other cattle are part of our dialy livelihood. While it is important to discuss subtle issues of philosophy and explore questions of politics yet an attempt to know about our daily nuiances such as the killing of cattle by a stalking Leopard is also essential. It is not only a humbling experience to do so but it also portrays our real problems, experiences, and aspirations of ordinary people like Safar Baig and others.
    As a matter of fact i could not really understand what has upset Kako Jamil when he says that we should not violate the so called ‘international standards of journalism”
    Best regards

  4. THE REASON IS THAT V R CREATING DISTURBANCE IN THE ECOSYSTEM.THE LEOPARD CAN’T GET ITS FOOD IN ITS HABITAT N THE MEANWHILE IT COMES DOWN TO THE POPULATION N ATTACKS ON THE DOMESTIC ANIMALS.
    SO WE NEED TO PROTECT THE FOOOD OF CARNIVORUS N AVOID THE HAVOC ATTACK OF LEOPARD.
    THERE IS A SOCIETY WHICH WORKS ON SNOWLEOPARD CONSERVATION.IT WILL PROVIDE THE COMPENSATION OF THE PREY.
    SO IN THIS CONTEXT U NEED TO CONTACT THEM.SOME OTHER GOVT DEPTT WORKING ON WILDLIFES R KHUNJERAB NATIONAL PARK , WILDLIFE DEPTT N NGOS LIKE WWF N IUCN.

  5. I agree with the comments sent by Shabbir from Peshawar University that if we’ll not disturb the natural habitat of wildlife especially the big cat (Pess) or Snow Leopard they will never come down to the corrals or near settlements.Pess is very bashful animal.
    My humble request to readers will be Save wildlife of your areas and one day you will get the benifit. Wildife is also part of the nature and our ecosystem.

    Save wildlife and;
