Strike called off, police official scuffles with Chinese worker

Gulmit, March 19: Daily wages workers of the Chinese company working on expansion of Karakuram Highway called off a three days protest strike and returned to work after discussions with company officials. According to reports received by PT from various sources the workers had announced to stage a protest strike, demanding higher wages.

In another interesting development a police official deptued to protect the Chinese engineers, allegedly, roughed up a supervisor on a petty matter. The police officials and chinese workers, both, have levled allegations of mistreatment on each other. The police official involved in the physical assault has been transfered to another location, according to report.
