FOCUS HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE bags yet another award

  Islamabad, June 30: At the historic Second Forum of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction held in Geneva, Switzerland, FOCUS HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE (FHA)- Pakistan, was recognized by the Jury of 2009 Sasakawa Award Laureate and accorded with the Certificate of Merit in recognition of its meritorious services rendered for mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction in the high risk mountainous regions of Pakistan.
According to a press note released by FHA the Certificate has been awarded to FOCUS Pakistan “for its outstanding submission of ideas and recommendations proposed for enhancing disaster risk reduction and correlated humanitarian response mechanisms in its respective geographical location.”

Mr. Ghulam Panjwani, Executive Officer along with Mr. Amyn Dossa, Chairman of the Board of Directors received the Certificate, on 16th June, 2009, from Sir John Holmes, Under Secretary of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs ,  at a highly distinguished and stately ceremony held at the premise of the UNISDR.

The United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction is one of the three prestigious awards established in 1986 by Mr. Ryoichi Sasakawa, the founding Chairman of the Nippon Foundation.

    This is amazing. A wonderful recognition for an INGO which actually introduced the idea of community based disaster risk management long before the calamitous earthquake of 2005 occured which actually opened many closed eyes in the public and proviate sector.

    Good work FOCUS and keep making wonders in a bid to promote disaster resilient communities!!!
