Two killed in Darel during polling

PT Report

Gilgit, November 13: Two people were killed, including a government official, and several others injured when two armed groups clashed in Darel region of the Diamir district. The clash started due to a dispute over whether women should be allowed to vote, at the polling stations setup by election commission for women in Giyar, Fookuch and Pingal villages of the valley.

Earlier this weak JUI (F) chief Fazal ur Rehman had attempted to convince the local clergy to allow women voters to exercise their democratic right in the GBLA election.

My Dear Brothers of Darel – Diamer District,

We are very sad for the dispute which rose among you and for the loss of 2 human lives whether they may belong to one ideology or other.

I pray from the Almighty Allah to bless peace and harmony among our brothers throughout Gilgit-Baltistan and bless us with the courage to resolve our issues and disputes amicably. Aameen…!!
