“Respect for environment vital for development”, Wazir Baig

Gilgit, December 31: Awareness among the public is very important to create respect and care for environment. Developmental projects have the potential to damage environment  of a community and it is the joint responsibility of state and the society to ensure that the negative effects of such projects are taken care of.

These views were expressed by the first speaker of GBLA, Wazir Baig, during a seminar held under the aegis of Gojal Rural Support Organization, a grass roots organization working for development of Gojal valley, the largest Tehsil of Gilgit – Baltistan.

He also said that different forces were trying to get hold of the abundant natural resources of Gilgit – Baltistan.

He also discussed different issues being faced by people of the region, specially mentioning the unavailability of safe drinking water in many villages.

The gathering was also attended and addressed by Mutabiat Shah, GBLA technocrat member, and the MD of Northern Areas Transport Corporation, Zafar Iqbal, among others.

Speaking at the occasion Mutabiat Shah said that concrete steps would be taken to ensure equitable and equal development of all segments of the society. He said that citizen participation in the process of social development increases the effectiveness and impact of development projects.
