Traders and laborers clash with police in Sost

Sost, January 8: Many people were injured, including police officials, as non – local traders and laborers clashed with police in the border town of Sost today. The laborers pelted stones on police vehicles and the surrounding shops, damaging doors and window panes.

A large number of traders and laborers belonging to different regions of Gilgit – Baltistan are stuck in the border town due to KKH blockade. Helicopters provided by the NDMA are airlifting these people but being large in numbers, hundreds of them are still present in the town.

The clash took place because many of the people wanted to move out of Sost on the choppers. When police tried to enforce discipline, reportedly, the frustrated laborers started fighting with each other, as well as the police officials.

Additional contingents of police were sent to Sost to calm down the situation. DIG Farman Ali, chief secretary and home secretary also visited Gojal today.
