[SAVE GOJAL – HUNZA MOVEMENT] Protesters in Lahore blast government’s failure in calamity hit Gojal – Hunza

Lahore, February 28: Over two hundred Lahore based students and professionals belonging to different parts of Gilgit – Baltistan staged a protest demonstration in front of the Lahore press club today against the failure of GB and federal government to offer quick solution to the various issues faced by calamity hit Gojal – Hunza.

The protesters carried banners and placards and chanted slogans against the government. They also burnt an effigy of the speaker of GBLA, Wazir Baig, for not being able to fulfill expectations of his voters.

The protesters also chanted slogans against the home secretary for ordering police action against peaceful demonstrators in Gilgit city. They demanded removal of the home secretary for not acting sensitively towards the distressed people of Gojal valley. The protesters also demanded an apology from the chief secretary for the police action against innocent and peaceful protesters.

Major demands of the protesters included declaration of Gojal valley as calamity hit and extension of relief operations to the region, increasing pace of work for releasing water from the disaster triggered lake buildup, complete and honorable rehabilitation of the IDPs of Attabad and Ayeenabd, seeking international help for opening the lake,  and payment of compensations to the people affected by KKH expansion for supporting the disaster hit economy of Gojal valley.

A slogan written on a placard asked the chief justice to take suo-moto notice of the situation being faced by Gojal valley.

Its the time that we should be unite and together to save our mother land.The youth of Gojal is capable of achieving any thing.I as a representative of RWP youth a sure all our elder that take a step we are there to support you.Here i would like to Quote a quotation of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,

  4. There is no use of protest in front of government instead we should unite and help our brothers and sisters of attabad and gojal areas and should help with the government agencies to clear the landslide

  5. Great job done guys…keep it up..this is the time to be unite and raise voice for our right…shame on our leadership who are still sleeping…
    There is no any economic activity in Gojal and purchasing power of many families has reached to zero..they dont have money to buy food items..these people need attention of Govt. and our institutions.
    Be brave and be ready to rebuild Gojal..

  6. No brothers, our leadership is not sleeping, it is doing a lot but things are more to be done, we have less resources, less time and hardships but we expect a lot from others like our leaders. Our leaders are not sky creatures, they are from ours, So do not abuse leaders. There are some our responsibilities also and we are also not feeling our responsibilities.
