Earth quake shocks felt in Gulmit and surrounding villages, boat operator drowns in the dammed Hunza River

Gulmit, July 31: According to reports reaching Pamir Times two mild earth quake shocks were felt today in Gulmit village, headquarter of Gojal Tehsil, in Hunza – Nagar district.

It is pertinent to note that Gulmit is one of the five villages affected by the dammed Hunza River.

There are also reports about a boat operator getting drowned in the dammed Hunza River. According to details the drowned man was operating a government boat. He, reportedly jumped out of the boat to swim and reach Shishkat while the boat was going towards the lake barrier. The boat from which he jumped was being operated by his other companions, according to person who was on the boat but did not want to be named.

The boat operator, reportedly a resident of Rahimabad Gilgit, has not been found yet.

    What a crazy act to do such a thing. No one can survive in these glacial waters for long, it’s just too cold.
