122 dead, 60 injured, 12300 displaced in Gilgit – Baltistan: NDMA

Islamabad, August 13: At least 122 people were killed in different parts of Gilgit – Baltistan during the recent rains and floods. Most of the deaths occurred in Diamir and Baltistan (Skardu, Ghanche). Four villages were completely destroyed, including Qamra, Talis, Gais Bala and Nilubar.

According to NDMA report 1233 houses were damaged in GB due to the rains and floods. The loss to means of livelihood and other infrastructure amounts to billions of rupees.

The most affected district in terms of land loss and damage to infrastructure is Ghizar were dozens of villages in the Tehsils of Yasin, Punial and Ishkoman have suffered heavy losses due to flash floods and river floods.

Hunza – Nagar has relatively remained safer from the disaster.

    I feel sad for the loss of human losses and assets and hope that the current government will focus on rehabilitation and preparedness programs.
