Gilgit, July 12: Ismailis across Gilgit- Baltistan and Chitral, like other parts of the world, celebrated Imamat Day of His Highness the Aga Khan IV, Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, with religious zeal and fervour. Celebratory events were held in all Ismaili majority parts of the region, as thousands of devotees came out to pay homage to the Imam, leader, who has guided them out of the abyss of poverty into an era of relative prosperity and happiness.
It is pertinent to note that the present Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, popularly known as the Aga Khan, ascended to the throne of Imamat on July 11, 1957, after the death of his grand father, Sir Sultan Mohammed Shah, a leader of Pakistan’s independence movement.
At an event held in Gulmit, headquarter of Gojal Valley, President of the Ismaili Regional Council for Hunza, Dr. Khuwaja Khan, demanded of the government to intensify the efforts to drain the dammed Hunza River. He also appreciated the local peoples’ resolve to fight against the natural disaster and build their own lives.
Events held across the region comprised of festivities, where the Ismailis resolved to live their lives in line with the teachings of their present Imam.
Musical shows, speeches, mountain lightening, various competitions and other similar festivities were seen across the region.
