International Literacy Day celebrated in GB with rallies and seminars

Skardu, September 8: Students, teachers and ordinary citizens celebrated the International Literacy Day in Skardu, the headquarter of Baltistan. Small rallies from different schools converged into a huge congregation at the Sakmidan High School where speakers discussed the importance of literacy and the important role it plays in social transformation. Speakers also raised the issue of political activities at campuses, urging the authorities to keep the trend in watch and take appropriate action to stop violence and negativity.

Literacy day was also celebrated in Gilgit city. Students of Northland Public School organized a program with the help of an NGO called Children As Partners Development Organization (CAPDO). The students presented speeches, songs and skits to highlight different literacy related issues.

Students of various government schools also organized rallies to advocate literacy and highlight importance of the day. They walked from Kalma Chowk

The participants were carrying banners and placards with slogans in favour of literacy.

September 8 is celebrated as International Literacy Day. This year’s theme was “Literacy for Peace”.
