Two boats collide in dammed Hunza River, merchandise worth 'millions' sink

Hussaini, October 27: Two boats carrying merchandise collided near Hussaini Village of Gojal. One of the overturned and merchandise worth millions of rupees, reportedly, sank in the dammed Hunza River.

The exact reason by collision of the boats could not be ascertained. However, in the past boats have collided due to over-speeding, as well as due to negligence of the operators.

Well over one hundred boats are being operated in the lake but there is no proper system of checking the driver’s capacity to operate the boats.

In the past passengers’ lives have been jeopardized on several occasions due to negligence of boat operators. The local people have demanded of the district administration to take notice of the situation and devise a plan to control the boat traffic in the dammed river.

  1. The people of Gojal need to behave like grown up and independent people and devise a proper plan and/or a committee to set the standards and keep a check on the movement of all the boats. And the people need to step up and speak up to the boat operators if they’re over speeding or being negligent.
