18 billion rupees approved for second phase of Lawari Tunnel construction

CHITRAL: MNA from Chitral Shahzada Mohyuddin has said that work on the Lowari tunnel project will be started shortly while the preliminary work has been assigned to the Frontier Works Organization for clearance of the debris inside the tunnel and make it able for vehicular traffic during the winter season.

Talking to the local journalists here on Friday in his residence, he said that as a result  of his unswerving efforts both on the floor of the house and in the platforms outside the parliament, the federal government agreed to allocate 18 billion rupees for the completion of the project as per modified design which has been changed from rail tunnel to the road tunnel.

Mr. Mohyuddin said that the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has formally approved the Rs.18,132.544 million for Lawari tunnel and access roads project.

He said that the project will be completed within a span of one year time after the release of funds for which the people of Chitral waiting with impatience.

He said that with the closure of Lowari Top road due to snowfall during the winter season, the tunnel will be kept opened for the passengers and transportation of goods to facilitate the people.

Regarding the Mastuj-Baroghil road, he said that under the special directive of President Zardari, the 200-kms long road will connect Chitral with the Central Asian state of Tajikistan through the Wakhan corridor of Afghanistan.
