[Pictorial] Snowfall adds to the agony of remote communities

Life in the mountains becomes very difficult with the arrival of harsh winters. Many remote valleys remain covered under snow for months, with no outside access and without any local solutions to many basic needs, like health and access to fresh water. The situation is almost same in all border valleys, like Gultari, Darkut, Misgar, Shimshal, parts of Kharmang, parts of Gupis and the the Chilm and Dashkin valleys of Astore.

In this pictorial, we present selected photographs shared by Karim Khan Fayyazi, a citizen reporter, who recently visited the Ziarat area in Chipursan region of Gojal Valley, upper Hunza. The photographs reflect the region’s beauty, at one hand, but the stories of risk, vulnerabilities and difficulties at the other.
