[Electricity] Protesters defy zero temperature in Ishkoman Valley for the 4th consecutive day

PT Report

Chatorkhand, December 11: After yesterday’s violent protests, thousands of people gathered in the Ishkoman Valley of Ghizar District, protesting against the authorities for failing to provide electricity to the region.

Yesterday the protesters had beaten a magistrate and burnt a vehicle belonging to a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

Governor of Gilgit – Baltistan, Syed Karam Ali Shah, has reached the valley to quell the protesters. Contingents of police from Gilgit and Gahkuch, district headquarters, have also been sent to Ishkoman to keep the situation control.

Today, the protesters were also demanding that no cases shall be registered against those involved in yesterday’s violent protests.

The government and bureaucracy, on the other hand, seem adamant at teaching the protesters a lesson. Lists are being compiled, according to sources, to arrest the protesters.

Protests started in the valley four days back after the residents constantly failed to get electricity, despite of several requests to the administration.
