More violence in Gilgit, young man injured

Gilgit, December 29: A young man named  Sajid, hailing from Sumayar Valley of Hunza – Nagar district, has been injured by unknown assailants who opened fire on him at the PIA link road area of Gilgit city. Sajid sustained injuries on his leg and he was shifted immediately to District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

According a study more than half of the incidents of shooting and murder in Gilgit city are because of personal conflicts and animosities.

The firing incident took place at around 0720 hrs in the evening. Police have registered a case against unknown assailants.

There has been a surge in the incidents of firing in which one person belonging to Astore Valley was shot dead, reportedly on personal animosity, while a journalist named Safdar Boto, hailing from Skardu was injured. He is the brother of former advisor Captain Sikandar According to some reports the journalist’s leg had to be amputated at a hospital in Rawalpindi.

While some people count these incidents as results of sectarian target attacks, others believe that majority of killings and shootings are based on personal conflicts and animosities. A report published by a Gilgit based NGO has calculated that more that half of the reported attacks are result of personal or familial conflicts, as opposed to the popular view.
