Disagreement over site of Diamer’s divisional headquarters

Gilgit, February 3: The creation of new administrative division (Diamer Astor) has caused a new dispute between the districts of Astore and Diamer.

Political leaders of both the districts are trying to bring the headquarters in their area and for getting the goal blame game has also been started.

Member Gilgit Baltistan Council and Adviser to Prime Minister Wazir Ebadat has said that the people of Astor would not tolerate and come out in the streets if the headquarter was made in Diamer.

He said, “Astori people feel themselves insecure in Diamer because of hostile attitude of the people of Diamer”. He blamed that assembly members from Astore were not taken into confidence for establishing new division.

While on the other hand Provincial Minister Bashir Ahmed Khan and Opposition leader Janbaz Khan rejecting the allegations of Wazir Ebadat have said Diamer was a land of peace loving people and Ebadat was trying to spread prejudice among the people of both districts.

They said “Astori people are killed in Gilgit not in Chilas”adding that all the efforts to disturb the peace in the region on the issue would be made unsuccessful.

They also said that assembly members form Astore were took into confidence while Ebadat was not elected man there fore he was not consulted.
