Gojal Valley Boat Service suspended for one week

PT Report

Aliabad, February 27: The government has decided to impose a ban on the Gojal Valley boat service, for a period of seven days.

According to a district official the ban has been imposed in view of the uncertain condition created by blasting of a temporary blockade on spillway of the dammed Hunza River. The official said that movement on the Karakuram Highway will always remain suspended during the next week.

The ban, imposed as a precaution, is likely to complete the isolation of 25,000 people in Gojal Valley and other people in the downstream areas, if the KKH remains closed. In this situation the government shall consider starting helicopter service for the affected region, to help the stranded people in times of crucial emergencies, at least.
