Gilgit, March 3: Thousands of people converged into a procession at the historical Jamatkhana Bazar today to register their protest against  the murder of sixteen people in Kohistan the other day. The protesters came out in large numbers after the Friday prayers were offered.

The procession was addressed by religious and political leaders, including Agha Rahat, Sheikh Mirza Ali and MLA Deedar Ali.

The speakers in Gilgit demanded of the government to arrest the culprits within seven days, as promised, and fulfill the six more demands presented in a charter. Failing this, the speakers threatened, would lead to severe protests and sit-ins across the region.

In Skardu, Sheikh Jafari demanded that the state-subject rule should be reenacted to decrease the influence of non-local people in GB. He made the demand while addressing a Juma congregation.

Protests were also held in Chilas to condemn the massacre.Speaker in Chilas demanded of the government to arrest the killers and bring them to justice. They said that the massacre is part of an international conspiracy aimed at fanning of sectarian disharmony in the geo-strategically sensitive region.

In Hunza – Nagar, demonstrations were held in Sikandarabad, Aliabad, Thole, Nagar Khas and Saas Valley.
