Gojal: Water level in dammed river increasing
Gulmit: The water level in
dammed Hunza River is on the rise again due to melting of the glaciers and blockade of the spillway again. The FWO is reportedly excavating the spillway to further deepen it, as part of a last effort to reduce the water level, before the summers.
The last drainage attempt had been relatively successful, leading to a net decrease of about 20 ft in the water level.
Today the Director General of Frontier Works Organization (FWO) visited the spillway and expressed satisfaction over the pace of work. The temporary blockade on the spillway will be demolished in first week of May, it is learnt.
