Chilas: Timber market gutted by unexplained fire

Chilas, August 2: A huge fire in Chilas, the district headquarters of Diamer, gutted tonnes of chopped timber, furniture factories and around two dozen shops Wednesday night. The reason behind the fire could not be established.

A large number of people gathered near the spot and tried to save valuable items by putting water on it with the help of buckets. The Fire Brigade could not reach the spot on time. No senior district official visited the burning site to supervise the operations.

After several hours the local volunteers, helped by vehicles of the fire brigade were able to extinguish the fire midday on Thursday.
