Responsible Tourism Day celebrated in Gilgit

Gilgit, Nov 7: School children, local volunteers and staff of the Serena Hotel celebrated World Responsible Tourism Day in Gilgit today. A rally was taken out to advocate responsible tourism, protection of the environment and love for nature.
The students met shopkeepers in the locality and told them to use bags made of cloths, instead of plastic bags. They also presented skits to highlight different hazards associated with plastic/polythene bags. The students had also prepared interesting posters related to the theme.
Deputy Commissioner of Gilgit, Arqam Tariq, speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of eco-tourism. He said that the Gilgit – Baltistan region is blessed with immense beauty and it can be a viable source of income for the people, if it is protected and promoted.
The World Responsible Tourism Day was also attended by local intelligentsia, media persons, notables and government officials.
