Five member committee formed to resolve crisis in Gilgit-Baltistan

Islamabad, April 22: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan has said that Federal Government and Gilgit-Baltistan Government are at the same page when it comes to the issue of Wheat crisis going on in the region.

Both are serious in order to resolve the crisis and will work together in this regard. He said this in a meeting with Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan. Syed Mahdi Shah called on Federal Minister in his office and apprised him regarding sufferings of the people due to wheat prices and protests.

Ch Muhammad Barjees Tahir said that Federal Government accords a great deal of respect to the feelings of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and would take every possible step in order to resolve the crisis.

In meeting, issue of wheat subsidy was discussed in detail and a five member committee was constituted in chairmanship of Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan. Other members of the committee include Bashir Ahmad Khan, Minister for Works, Gilgit-Baltistan, and three members of Gilgit-Baltistan Council i.e. Amjad Hussain advocate, Muhammad Ibrahim and Atta Ullah Shahab. Committee will assemble for meeting on Thursday 24 April 2014. This committee would formulate recommendations which would be sent to Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) for final Approval.
