Rockfall: Eight members of a family killed in Niyat Valley, Diamer

Chilas, September 5: Eight members of a family, including women and children, were killed when their house was hit by a huge boulder that fell from the mountain above in Niyaat Valley of Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to details, the local people have recovered 4 bodies from the debris of the house. Search for the remaining bodies is underway. The deceased have been identified as Sher Khan, Atiqur Rehman, Sher Afzal, daughter of Gulab, daughter of Hakmu and daughter of Sher Khan, among others. The house belonged to Sher Khan, it has been learnt.

The region has been receiving heavy rainfall for the last three days.

Niyat Valley is located in a remote region and the road to the valley is also blocked due to which rescue and relief teams have not been able to reach.

The locals have appealed to the authorities to reach the remote area and help the people in distress and need.
