Body of teen found hanging from a tree in Gulmit, Gojal

Gulmit, October 10: The body of a teenage boy identified as Mirza Shah was found hanging from a tree near his house this morning in Gulmit, the Tehsil headquarters of Gojal Valley. The body has been shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.

A police official told Pamir Times that early this morning Mirza Shah left his house, located in Odver Muhallah of Gulmit. He reportedly told his mother that he was going out of the village, and that before leaving he will visit their orchard/garden.

Mirza had reportedly sent cellphone messages to his friends and family members last night, seeking forgiveness, and saying goodbye. These messages had left the relatives perplexed.

It was also later found out that he had posted an update on his Facebook profile, saying that he was going for a ‘mission’. He had, on his Facebook profile, also asked his friends for prayers and forgiveness. The Facebook update had been posted six hours ago, at around 5:30 am.

In the morning his cellphone was not responding, or powered off, which made some people suspicious. They started searching for him in the vicinity of the house and found his body hanging from a tree.

“The immediate cause of the death remains unknown. A doctor is reaching the village soon to conduct autopsy and establish the cause of death”, said the police official.

It is pertinent to note that this is the third case of its type in the Gojal Valley. Two years back similar incidents had happened in Passu, a village located 10km north of Gulmit.
