Islamabad: A joint session of the apex committees of KPK and Gilgit-Baltistan was held today in Peshawar, in which important decisions pertaining to the security of the Karakoram Highway were taken. A land dispute between Diamer (GB) and Kohistan (KPK) also came under discussion. The apex committee also decided that all power projects along the KKH will be completed. Details of other decisions taken during the meeting were not immediately available.

The apex committee meeting was attended among others by the Governor of KPK, chief ministers of GB and KPK, as well as core commanders of Peshawar and Rawalpindi.

Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, while talking to a television channel later, said that around 300 ex-servicemen will be hired to provide security to the vehicles moving on the KKH. He added that FC will also be deployed on the KKH to ensure maximum protection. The CM further said that army will provide overall supervision for the protecting forces.

He also said that some absconders have taken refuge in the mountains of some parts of the Diamer district. He said that efforts are being made to make them surrender. “If they don’t surrender, then we will launch a military operation in the area”, said CM Hafeez, responding to a question.

He added that troops of Pakistan Army have been deployed in the Darel and Tangir sub-divisions to maintain law and order.
