Gilgit: The border between Pakistan and China at the Khunjerab National Park will be opened for trade and traffic on the 1st of April, after remaining closed due to severe cold and snowfall at the 15500 ft high border crossing.

The border remains closed for four months during the winters.

According to sources, 400 locals have so far filed applications to get border passes for traveling to the Xinjiang region of China. It is pertinent to note that permanent residents of Gilgit-Baltistan can travel to Xinjiang without obtaining Visa. They only need a border pass, issued by the Home Department of Gilgit-Baltistan.
