Islamabad: Renowned mountaineers Samina Baig and her brother Mirza Ali, along with international runner Ziyad Rahim, are planning to organize the first ever mega marathon in the history of Hunza.
‘For the first time ever in Hunza, the organizers plan to hold the international sporting event in the area to engage people of any age; international runners are also expected to participate in the event’, said a press release.
The marathon will be focused on raising awareness against the curse of drug abuse, which has taken many lives in the years recently, while also causing several social and economic issues. The organizers hope to create awareness and open up avenues for inclusion by making people run together despite their differences in this marathon.
Chairman of the Pakistan Youth Outreach, Mr. Mirza Ali, has in a press statement said that the marathon has been planned in view of the desire expressed by many people to take part in such an event.
Mirza Ali and Samina Baig have been actively engaged in creating opportunities for healthy activities for the youth, promoting positive message, and encouraging unique sports for everyone.
Ziyad Rahim, a Pakistani adventure runner, has achieved six Guinness World Records in marathons and ultra marathons. After earning the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to run a marathon on each continent and the North Pole in 2013, Ziyad added a further five world records in 2014.
