GB Chief Court: Trippe murder convict to be hanged thrice

Gilgit: A division bench of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court on Tuesday upgraded the punishment of a triple-murder convict, sentencing him to three counts of death, for each murder committed.

According to details shared in a press note, the convict Muhammad Ibrahim, a resident of Danyore, who is serving life imprisonment for throwing his wife and two children in a river and killing them, will now be hanged thrice.

The convict had thrown his family members in the Gilgit River in July 2010, over a domestic dispute. FIR No. 157/10 had been registered against him then. Later, a session judge had sentenced him to three life sentences and a fine of 3.5 million rupees was also imposed on him, after the heinous crime was proven. The convict had appealed in the Chief Court against the life imprisonment.

During the hearing of the appeal, the judges observed that the convict had been given less punishment than he deserved. A hearing was held in this connection on 5^th November, leading to today’s conviction and upgrading of punishment.

Overturning the session court’s decision, Justice Shakil and Justice Haq Nawaz on Tuesday observed that the punishment for murder under PPC is death, and since Muhammad Ibrahim had taken three lives, he should also be hanged thrice, to ensure that justice prevails.
