Renowned Parachutist loses life while performing in Gupis, Ghizer

Yasin: Renowned paragliding pilot and parachutist, Hidayat Ullah Baig fell to his death while performing in the Gupis area of District Ghizer, yesterday.

According to details shared by locals, Hidayat, a resident of Yasin Valley was entertaining the locals by paragliding in Gupis area during a football match organized in connection with Pakistan Defense Day. Eyewitnesses have told local reporters that Hidayat jumped from a nearby mountain and intended to land in the middle of the football ground. When he reached above the ground, Hidayat lost balance, due to inclement weather, and fell in the middle of the ground along with his parachute.

He was rushed by the locals to a nearby government health facility in critically injured condition. From there he was referred to the Aga Khan Medical Center Singul, where relatively better health facilities are available. However, the injuries proved to be fatal and Hidayat breathed his last at the hospital.

Hidayat was member of a paragliding club based in the neighoring Chitral district. He had also recently joined a paragliding outfit, Big Wings, in Gilgit.

The death of the famous paragliding pilot has sent shock waves throughout the valley. Messages of shock and condolence are being offered online by hundreds of people.
