Student attempts suicide after failing in HSSC exam, detained by police

Gilgit: Gilgit police on Saturday detained a student who was reportedly attempting suicide after failing in HSSC-I exam.

According to details, the student, whose name is being withheld to protect his identity, attempted to kill himself, after learning that he had flunked in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) part one exam.

The Gilgit Police intervened (details still awaited) and detained him, as suicide is a criminal offence under article 325 of the Pakistan Penal code.

The result announced yesterday showed that over 70 % of the students had failed.
