The speakers said that the flash floods that might result from the expansion would inundate low laying areas of Nagar Valley.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Muhammad Ali Akhtar, GB&#8217;s finance Minister threatened &#8220;to break the legs of traitors of Pakistan&#8221;, referring to the volunteers from Gojal and Hunza who tried to expand the spillway a couple of days ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">MLA Mirza Hussain also opposed the move by FWO and NDMA and said that if these institutions did not take the people of Nagar in confidence, they will be stopped by force. Analysts believe that Mirza&#8217;s change of heart has come from a recent friction with Army officials for illegal use of the boats for transportation of goods upstream. The Army personnel, reportedly, had stopped Mirza from using the boats without permission for personal purpose.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The conference was organized by Anjuman Hussainia Nagar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Around 500 Million Cubic meter of water has so far been stored in the lake that spans over a stretch of 23 kilometers. The lake is likely to hang over the head of downstream valley for the times to come if the risk is not reduced through controlled and safe release of water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">It is pertinent to note that around 27,000 people are living in tent villages in four districts, namely Hunza &#8211; Nagar, Gilgit, Diamir and Kohistan (KPK), waiting for an end to the limbo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PT Report Islamabad, June 21: Speakers at a conference held in Minapin Nagar opposed the decision to expand the spillway by mechanical methods.
