Karachi, February 3<\/strong>: The Ghulkin Students Association (GSA) and Ishkoman Wakhi Welfare Organization (IWWO) held a joint programme in Karachi on Sunday to explore ways for bringing the Wakhi speakers together for promotion of the language and culture.<\/p>\n

The first of its kind event is likely to pave way for further collaboration between the speakers of one of the world’s most endangered languages, i.e. Wakhi.<\/p>\n

A large number of youth and elders based in Karachi attended the event<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Named Ra\u017eaik, the program is likely to provide more opportunities for cooperation between the X\u030ciks (Wakhi speakers) of the two valleys.<\/p>\n

GSA and IWWO’s efforts to bring the people together has been hailed by members of the organizations and the community at large.<\/p>\n

It is pertinent to note that Wakhi has been mentioned as an endangered language in the “Red Book”<\/p>\n

In view of the eminent threat faced by the Wakhi language, more such efforts are needed within Pakistan and across the border. One of the foremost challenges faced by Wakhi language is that it is still an unwritten language. Its alphabets are yet to be standardized and promoted.<\/p>\n

Speaking at \u00a0the occasion, the participants said that in view of the guidance of His Highness the Aga Khan, who almost all of the Wakhis across the world revere as an Imam (leader), collective efforts are need to preserve and promote the Wakhi language and culture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
