{"id":4308,"date":"2009-01-02T11:36:56","date_gmt":"2009-01-02T06:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pamirtimes.net\/?p=4308"},"modified":"2009-01-02T11:36:56","modified_gmt":"2009-01-02T06:36:56","slug":"gilgit-baltistan-to-get-rid-of-loadshedding-by-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pamirtimes.net\/en\/2009\/01\/02\/gilgit-baltistan-to-get-rid-of-loadshedding-by-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"Gilgit-Baltistan to get rid of loadshedding by 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><strong>GILGIT, Jan 1:<\/strong> The Northern Areas\u2019 water and power department has claimed that it will overcome power shortage in the region within the next three years, and building on the success, it will be in a position to sell out electricity by 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">The department\u2019s executive engineer, Naz Akbar, told Dawn that at present 93 power stations were functioning in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">Mr Akbar said the water and power department was currently incapable of generating electricity vis-\u00e0-vis demand, as the generation capacity was 77.7 megawatt against the local demand of 148 megawatt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">According to him, 14 power projects were completed last year, while 27 projects are under construction and would be commissioned within stipulated period.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">\u201cThe department has focused all attention on completion of these projects,\u201d Mr Akbar said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\">He divulged that Rs3,429.442 million were being spent on these 27 ongoing projects, which would produce 66.2 megawatt electricity.
