GILGIT:<\/strong> Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gilgit-Baltistan Sabir Ahmed has said there were elements in Gilgit-Baltistan being funded from abroad.<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with Pamir Times, he said the future of Gilgit-Baltistan lies in peace, prosperity will follow automatically. \u00a0The so-called nationalists in Ghizer were only few and were getting money, he added.<\/p>\n

He said there were risks that some elements may exploit the tax issue and create a situation that can harm the peaceful environment of Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/p>\n

IGP said that 2017 was the best year in terms of law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan. There was only one case registered during Muharram-ul-Haram in 2017 as compared to 18-20 FIRs in 2016, he further added.<\/p>\n

He said our priority for 2018 will be to work against the menace of narcotics in Gilgit-Baltistan. While identifying the weaknesses in police department, he said the target would be to improve police investigation and detection with the help of special branch.<\/p>\n

He added that the police system will witness a total change within 2 years after the Special Protection Unit (SPU) is functional, IT Division and Police Telecommunication systems in place and the Counter Terrorism Unit being reactivated on modern lines. SPU will play a pivotal role by protecting both CPEC and non CPEC businesses in Gilgit-Baltistan, he added.<\/p>\n

He said all records of police department were streamlined during 2017. There will be no side entry, shoulder promotions and out of turn promotions, he added. He said promotions will be given to those who have attended courses and having good ACR.<\/p>\n
