GILGIT:<\/strong> The Awami Action Committee has joined hands with religious and political organizations, to mobilize tens of thousands of people across Gilgit-Baltistan to press the governments in Islamabad and Gilgit for resolution of long-standing issues plaguing the masses.<\/p>\n

The Charter of Demands in Urdu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Translated version of the 15 points Charter of Demands presented by the Awami Action Committee is as follows:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Freeze wheat subsidy at 2022 rates. Provide each person with 9kilograms of wheat a month.<\/li>\n
  2. Cancel Gilgit-Baltistan Finance Act 2023 and end all taxes imposed in Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/li>\n
  3. End the successive governments\u2019 \u2018artificially created power crisis\u2019 in the region and increase electricity production.<\/li>\n
  4. Sign an agreement with the federal govt on the lines of the \u201cNational Finance Commission\u201d to get financial resources for Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/li>\n
  5. Accept ownership of locals over all uncultivated and baren land through the Gilgit-Baltistan Reforms Bill.<\/li>\n
  6. Replace GB Assembly with a constituent assembly.<\/li>\n
  7. Provide free electricity to Gilgit-Baltistan from Diamer-Bhasha Dam and give 80% royalty to GB in lieu of Water User Rights and Net Hydel Profits.<\/li>\n
  8. Cancel all mining leases given to non-locals and award the leases to locals of Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/li>\n
  9. Declare Tourism and Transportation as Industries in GB.<\/li>\n
  10. Construct Shounter Tunnel to promote tourism in Gilgt-Baltistan.<\/li>\n
  11. Construct medical and engineering colleges in Gilgt-Baltistan.<\/li>\n
  12. Establish a university for women in GB.<\/li>\n
  13. Restore all ancient trade routes and roads.<\/li>\n
  14. Award PSPD contracts to local contractors in Gilgit-Baltistan.<\/li>\n
