Islamabad, September 27: Progressive Youth Front (PYF) and Awami Workers Party (AWP) leader, Comrade Baba Jan has told the media  that he plans to appear before a judge in Gilgit within two days.

Baba Jan, along with 11 others, had been sentenced for life and more time in prison by an anti-terrorism court judge in Gilgit yesterday. They stand accused of burning government buildings, looting ammunition and many other charges. CLICK HERE FOR CASE BACKGROUND.

Police had arrested 11 people in connection with this case and hunt for Baba Jan has been underway in Gilgit since yesterday. For the last three days police had set vigil at the exit and entry points.

“My cousin had a bike accident near Ghulmet (Nagar) and we had to rush him to Islamabad for emergency treatment”, Baba Jan said, while talking to Pamir Times. A photograph of Baba Jan at the bedside of a patient at a private hospital has also been shared with the media.

Baba Jan said that he had requested the court to postpone the hearing for a couple of days, but that did not happen.

He said that an appeal will be launched against the verdict of the ATC judge in the Chief Court of Gilgit-Baltistan. “Papers for lodging the appeal are being prepared in Gilgit”, he said.

Baba Jan said that the murderers of two IDPs are roaming free but peaceful activists are being persecuted.

“Our peaceful struggle for the rights of the downtrodden and impoverished people of Gilgit-Baltistan will continue despite of all the hurdles”, he said.
