Establishment of “GB Provincial Language Authority” demanded

Gilgit, February 21: The GB Government should establish a provincial language authority for promotion and preservation of the diverse languages of Gilgit – Baltistan. This was demanded during a ceremony organized in connection with the International Mother Language Day celebrated today across the globe. The event had been organized by Shina Language and Culture Promotion Society, a representative regional organization which has published around a dozen books on different aspects of Shina language.
Speakers also demanded policy making and legislation for protection and promotion of the rich language heritage of Gilgit – Baltistan.
Those who spoke at the occasion included SLCP President Shakeel Ahmed Shakeel, Vice President Abdul Hafeez Shkir, Finance Secretary Ghulam Abbas Naseem, General Secretary Istiaq Ahmed Yaad and Press and Information Secretary Tufail Abbas, Joint Secretary Salman Ali and Asif Bashir, among others.
