Hunza: Electricity to 200 IDP families cut off

Hunza, June 20:   The officials of Power and Works Department (PWD) Gilgit-Baltistan have disconnected the electricity connections of 200 IDP families in Gulmit and Shishkat villages without serving any prior notices.  According to PWD, the lines have been cut off under Electricity Act as these families were not paying electricity bills after the Attabad disaster.

The IDPs committee has decided to approach the local Court as the previous government had announced free electricity and other utilities for the IDPs of Attabad disaster.

It is here to mention that Attaabd and Gojal valley in upper Hunza, were declared as calamity hit area by the previous government of Mehdi Shah due to the widespread devastation of the Attabad landslide on Jan 4, 2010.
