54 percent children do not go to schools in Diamer, claims ASER 2013 survey

Islamabad, January 17: The Annual Status of Education Report 2013, launched yesterday, maintains that only 46% of children in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan go to schools, while 54 percent children simply do not attend schools.
The data for other districts of Gilgit-Baltistan shows a lot of promise and progress over the last several years. Astore has the second largest chunk of children (13.5%) out of schools. District Gilgit has 9% of its children out of schools and Skardu 10.6 percent.
Ghizer has the second highest enrollment rate at 95.9 percent. Hunza-Nagar tops the list of the districts in Gilgit-Baltistan in terms of enrollment at 97.9 percent.
In total, around 16% children across Gilgit-Baltistan do not go to any type of schools.
The enrolled students of Diamer district have shown excellent results on being tested for story reading, English language and Arithmetic. They have out performed the students from Hunza-Nagar in Urdu, English and Arithmetic.
Thirty four 34 percent of the children out of schools in Diamer are girls.
The report has been based on survey of government operated, private and other institutes of learning, including religious seminaries (Madressahs).
