Overseas Employment Corporation sent 6,384 workers, including 09 GBians, during last 5 years
Islamabad: Overseas Employment Corporation has sent 6,384 workers in different foreign countries during last five years.
The selection of the workers for employment abroad is carried out by the foreign employers themselves or through their representatives, who have sole discretion to select the workers of their own choice from any part of the country, said official sources of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
OEC acts on their behalf as facilitator and coordinator, he told APP here on Monday adding, domicile wise data in respect of workers sent abroad for employment by the OEC during last five years was Punjab 3785, Sindh 1501, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa 794, Balochistan 77, AJK 57, Gilgit Baltistan 09, Fata 43 and 118 from federal capital.
He informed that OEC is a Recruiting Agency of the Government and it has not launched any development project for any province or region since its establishment.
He further informed that since 1971 to 2013, more than 7 million people have proceeded abroad for the purpose of employment through Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BE&OE).
However, it is clarified that the district- wise data of intending emigrants is being maintained since 1981.
The source said, those overseas Pakistanis, who are not registered with OPF can get themselves registered voluntarily with OPF after paying Rs2,000/- each once for all.
Overseas Pakistanis remain OPF members as long as they stay abroad.
However, they are entitled to OPF benefit/services rendered by OPF for a period of three years after their permanent return in Pakistan.
