9 members of Gilgit-Baltistan Masajid Board resign, saying govt not “serious in fight against terrorism”

Gilgit, October 23: Nine Shia members of the Masajid Board (Mosque Board) formed by the regional government have resigned in protest, accusing the Gilgit-Baltistan government of not showing seriousness in tackling issues of terrorism.
In a letter addressed to the region’s Home Secretary, the 9 members have said that they used their personal resources to mobilize the public for restoration of peace and harmony after the consecutive incidents involving murder of innocent Shia passengers. However, they say, the government has not given enough attention and weightage to the board’s suggestions and recommendations.
The resigning members include, Syed Ahmad Ali Shah, Syed Nizamuddin, Sheikh Nasir Zamani, Hussain Ali Rana, Abid Ali Baig and Syed Muzaffar Abbas, among others.
