Diamer police foils terror plot
Gilgit: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Shoaib Khurram has said that police has foiled a terror bid in the Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan, arresting three suspects and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition.
According to a note shared with the media, a police under the leadership of SHO City Police Station Chilas conducted a raid, arresting three suspects, Malang Jan son of Akbar Khan and Sardar Ali son of Malang Jan belonging to Mengora, Swat, along with Imam Hadi son of Gojo, a resident of Thor Valley, Diamer.
Sixteen automatic and semi-automatic firearms and 178 bullets of various types were recovered from the possession of the detained suspects, said the police statement. 3,000 grams of Charas, an addictive drug, was also reportedly recovered based on information provided by the suspects.
DIG Shoaib Khurram has said that the weapons had been stored to spread terrorism in the region.
Cases (No. 19/2017 under section 13 AO of the the Anti-Terrorism Act and 20/2017 under section 9C of the Anti-Narcotics Act have been registered against the suspected terrorists.
The police has also proposed formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to interrogate the suspected terrorists further.
