NALA elections on schedule, Kaira

GILGIT, August 11 (APP): Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said here on Monday that a reforms package would be announced for the Northern Areas granting full powers to the elected representatives. He said all segments of the society were being consulted in preparation of the reforms package.

The information minister who is also the chairman of the region  said that the elections for the Northern Areas Legislative Assembly would be held according to schedule on Oct 12 and 13.

The Information Minister while talking to journalists on the conclusion of his two-day visit to the Northern Areas said the package   would be announced under an executive order.

The minister said the new system would meet the long- standing demand of the people in the region.

Qamar Zaman Kaira said the Annual Development Plan for the Northern Areas would soon be announced.

He said the funding for uplift had too been increased.

He said it had been decided to change the procedure of providing funds. These would, henceforth, be provided after a six month period instead of the quarterly basis as it is done at present.

He said Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had done enormous work for the welfare of people of region. He said once the Bunji and Diamer Bhasha Dam on  completion of construction would usher in an era of prosperity and development.

He congratulated the nation on crushing network of terrorists He announced media colonies for media community of Gilgit and Skardu but said modalities will have to be set as to whom the plots should be given.

He also announced Rs. 200000 for Gilgit Press Club.  The Federal Minister said the trend of giving extensions in services would be strictly discouraged.

Earlier, delegations of Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League, Northern Area High Court Bar Association called on him and discussed matters pertaining to development of the region.

    I don’t agree to this statement, coz, None of Us is been involved in da Preparation of da Package, even Mr Ghazanfar said,” I dn’t have any idead wot’s in that package”
    so, that package is Not Accepted by me.
    Untill my representative is there for me, not a Pathan or Punjabi.

  4. It is suggested that (1) Chitral should be merged in Northern Areas in the new reform package, keeping in view similar geographical location, culture, language and common interest and (2) Northern Areas should be given the status of province.

  5. I agree to you. chitral is an integral part og G-B including Shinaki Kohistan and Laddakh.
