Home Ministry issues threat alert, security beefed up in Gilgit-Baltistan

GILGIT: The Home Department of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has sent a security alert to the all departments of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), informing them about threats of terrorist activities. The departments have been instructed to enhance their security levels and not show any negligence.

‘There are complaints from the concerned quarters that the officials of GB police deployed at Governor Secretariat and House, CM Secretariat and House and civil Secretariat are not on duty. This is not appreciated. Security arrangements may be ensured as per Blue Book, irrespective of the fact that whether the dignitaries of offices are present in their office/ house or otherwise,” reads the letter addressed to GB Inspector General of Police (IGP) and DG Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts.

The letter further says that the security of important buildings, including, but not limited to, Governor Secretariat and House, CM Secretariat and House and civil Secretariat, DHQ hospital, Airports,prisons, government offices, schools and colleges be revisited and enhanced.

Following the alert, security has been tightened in the city with law enforcement agencies checking people entering GB.

“We are keeping a close watch on the situation and the security plan for the region is being revisited daily,” said Mobarak Jan, spokesman of GB Police, while talking to this scribe on Friday. He said that security has also been beefed up along the Karakoram Highway (KKH) to ensure safe passage for travelers.
