KKH opens for traffic

Hunza, May 23: The Karakuram Highway (KKH) has been opened for traffic after Chinese engineers, working on expansion of the KKH, worked on the damages caused to the roadby flow of mud and water from the nearby Ghulkin glacier.  According to local people the flooding was caused by the diversion of water’s direction from the traditional route. The flooding has caused heavy damages to potato fields and orchards.

The scouts and volunteers had constructed a temporary wooden bridge for passegers to cross the road.  According to last minute updates, the overflow of water has stopped completely.

  2. …now a days alot of problems are facing by our youth in the form of non-stop high price of eating stuffs,political problems,wheat shortage n many more….n now infront of u the deastrous destruction caused by the flood,no anyone knows its origon…

    in these hot situations imam has recently sent his farman to the youth n has told us that…TO REMAIN CONFIDENT N HAPPY..TO CONSERVE OUR BUDGET..N WORK HARD N HARD..THESE SITUATION WILL REMAIN FOR A LONG TIME MEAN TO SAY IT WILL TAKE TIME FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF THESE CRUSIAL SITUATIONS…

  3. i am very sad to know that some part of ghulkin (chatt Ghust) has been damaged due to have water flow from glaicer but no damage to human life i can pary may mowla keep every one safe and sound and protect them in future….

  5. This sort of natural calamities and disaster invite our attention to get prepare to help and assist those who are affected and lost
    the properties in form of orchard (apple, appricot and cherry) and crops (wheat, potatoes etc).I know the hard work of the owners
    who left no stone unturn in developing these farms @orchards.I hope the local administration has the cognisance of the plight @ordeal of the affectees and will respod to compensate in assesing the loss which will support in the livelyhood of these families.
    The response of our voluteers has always remained very suppotive ,encourgeeing ,I salute the spirit of their volunteer work and pay great regard.

  6. is there anyway to predict the oncoming of such floods?

    is it feasible to dig out water pathways around vegetable fields and housing structures so that if such floods come in future (God forbid), the water can flow in these pathways, i.e. bypass the fields and houses?

  7. A very bed distruction by the flood at gulkin.we( the students of kiu) are requesting to the local government of gilgit and the NGOs of Aga khan development net work to take a step for this distruction, and help the poor land lords of gulkin and husssani.
    Especialy we request to the FOCUS to guide the people about this disaster.and shift the nearest houses in other safe places.
    we also request to the NPWD for the quick recovrey of KKH.and
    give awearness to the innocent pilgrimages of gojal.becouse it will proved dangrous for humans life.we hope that further our elders will elaborate these things.
