PMU to oversee Diamer dam construction

Gilgit, Nov 12: The government has decided to establish a Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) to oversee the construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam in a coordinated manner This was stated by Northern Areas Home Secretary Mohammad Usman Yonis while talking to reporters here on Wednesday.

He said the main purpose of establishing the PMU was to assist Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) and the local administration in allaying the reservations of the local people.

He said during the execution of the project, the PMU would also help coordinate among different government agencies. He said local officials would be included in the PMU to look after the issues.

He said the administration had also prepared a case to fight the battle of boundary and in this regard relevant record had also been obtained.

He said a committee comprising local lawyers, senior officials and politicians would also assist the committee. Courtesy: DAWN
