Khunjerab Pass closed

Hunza, Dec 31: The Khunjerab pass will remain closed for all types of trade till May 1, 2008. The pass will however remain open for the KKH expansion related activities.
According to sources, the 16500 feet Khunjerab Pass has received more than one feet snow which is more than that of last year during the same period. This year the trade volume re mained low due to world economic crisis, increased oil prices and security threats during Olympics in China.
Khunjerab Pass is the highest border pass connecting Pakistan and China with an altitude of 4,733 meters (15,620 feet). The opening of the pass is weatherdependent and officially remains open from April 1 to end of December.
