Punjab stops wheat supply to N. Areas

GILGIT, Jan 14: The Punjab government has stopped supply of wheat to the Northern Areas due to nonpayment of dues.

An official of the Northern Areas Food Department confirmed to Dawn the suspension of wheat supply and said that the department defaulted on payment of Rs2.85 billion to the Punjab government. He added that due to lack of funds the department could not pay the amount.

He said that the food department had made an agreement with the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) for supply of wheat to the region. Dawn
