Diamer dam resettlement plan rejected

GILGIT, March 1: The representative committee of DiamerBhasha dam affected people has rejected the resettlement plan designed by Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda).

This was announced by the committee in a meeting with Chief Secretary Northern Areas Babar Yaqoob here. The committee said the plan had been formulated without public consultation and was against the interest of the affected areas.

The chief secretary said the government was committed to taking care of the community. He said the affected people would be taken on board while making decisions in regard with the construction of the dam.

He said a new committee should be formed which should come up with recommendations to the satisfaction of the affected people. He said the committee should also hold consultation with the community from village to village and review the rates of land which would be acquired for the construction of the dam.

He said the committee should also comprise members from both the local administration as well as Wapda.  Dawn
